INTO THE FOREST (2015) by Patricia Rozema
“Hope is power”
In the middle of a blackout in all U.S.A in the near future two sisters live in the North Caroline woods in a home automation. They are far of some population and they will have to fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic setting. It is really refresh, unusual and hopeful receive in the current cinema a film that isn’t a second part of or remake about a successful ‘90s movie.
Not only the argument is very interesting, the human versus nature, versus himself and all him selfishness, him competitiveness and him wickedness but also the way that this is put in front of us. It isn’t an ambitious movie, it hasn’t a great special effects or famous actors or actresses but in spite of this is effective. The intelligent and intimate dialogues, a very good actor’s effort and wonderful natural settings, it isn’t necessary anything more. This movie complys with its function, entertain us. And this is the real function of the cinema.
The soundtrack is more than an accompaniment above all the metronome sound. This creates tension and that engulfs all atmosphere and the all action. The metronome marks the “tempo” in very moment, it is a symbol of the how pass the time, of the artificial rhythm that the humans have taken in our lives and how to easy or not is this rhythm…And finally they take the another one that is more own, the nature rhythm.
This is a movie that in spite of the hardness in some scenes, the naked way to introduced the worse things of the human being advocate for the hope in us like a specie that live in the Earth. A human being reconciled with the nature, make a pace with her, come back to her like a prodigal son for ensure the survival for both.
