GIRL ASLEEP (2015) by Rosemary Myers
“Everyone has an awkward phase, but this is just unreal”
Do you feel any time desire to dance, kick asses, specially bitch’s asses and laugh at the same time? That is because you don’t have watched this movie. Luckily, I can do it from my seat in the Aragon Cinemas, in Valencia. This Australian and fucking funny comedy, I don’t know that in Australia there was a good cinema, brings us to the ‘70s. Disco music and hippy looks to join Greta. Greta is a young girl, she changes her high school, she is new in another one and she is almost 15 years old.
For celebrate her birthday her mother organizes a party with everybody of the new high school, the bitches also. In the middle of the party Greta wandered in her childhood forest while she was slept. She was guided by the search for her music box. That music box is her childhood, something that she has almost lost. She must face to a lot of dangers, the adult’s dangers. With more humour than drama, Rosemary Myers get amuse us and, also, soften us at the same time, and I admit, I danced in my seat.
All in all, the movie is surprising about its simplicity and naturalness. Each character fits very well. None of them is misplace, as strange as it seems. The characters in the Greta’s dream fit in the film like the other things. The achievement of scenes, inclusive the dance scenes, isn’t forced or artificial. That scenes, more likely to musical movies, more than confuse us, are good for take a break in the Greta’s pain and make us feel well and with desire of dance all time in a disco. We can feel like in the ‘70s with bell-bottoms pants and mirror balls.
It’s a perfect mix among musical, teenage comedy and fable with an impressive actor’s effort. If I would bring to me one of that characters I will bring to Eliot, because is this friend that everybody need for make us laugh and hug us when we need it.
