THE COMMERCIAL FILM OF THE WEEK
RINGS (2017) by F. Javier Gutiérrez
“Can catch you anywhere”
Tightening the nuts of the sagas that have had a good social and economic impact is the order of the day. If the purpose has good dyes and you see a nice back work, you can tolerate this low originality of new ideas, however if the progress of the project is looking rough, the choice of actors is low level, the writers and the director are very unknown and the disbursement and economic deployment is practically zero, you see that something is going to go wrong. “Rings” has been sold as the recovery of “The Ring”, a kind of reboot of the saga, and in that is a reboot you can agree, only the reboot is not “The Ring”, is ” Scary Movie”…
A young woman decides to help her boyfriend when he observes how a subculture has been created because of a video that, if you visualize it, you die within seven days. The girl plays the life for him, but in the viewing one observes like there is something else in that video. The plot promises, right? What more mystery will there be in that film that is already well-known by the spectators? It’s simple: NONE. The film is simpler than the mechanism of a bottle, cataloging it as a terror is an insult to any of the rest of the genre, yes, anyone, because my eyes have not passed a terror tape as infamous as this.
Absolutely nothing can be drawn from the (fortunately) ninety minutes that the Spanish director F. Javier Gutiérrez has shot. It is a real shame that, with the film so curious that he made in 2008, “Before the Fall (3 días)”, that he worked the word “promise” has ended up doing a job so insulting to the viewer. It’s not conceived to have been three screenwriters, because the situations are the most topical in history, there will be no lack of sexual scenes when there is a killer entity in the area, viewing the tape with Samara advancing more clumsy than the character of Igor In “Young Frankenstein “, and raising a lot of laughter in the spectators nor the typical moments of “darkness” trying to be afraid of where there is not.
Little that to emphasize of a work where the only positive thing (making force to emphasize something) is the initial aesthetic with Johnny Galecki, that fades to the few minutes to throw to the face a cocktail of stupidities causing that the hour and average seems a Whole day, in which you are bound of feet and hands and you can not close the eyelids. I have felt very Malcolm McDowell in “A Clockwork Orange”, this torture is something that I will not forget in a long time. I have it clear, “Rings” is the worst movie not only of the year, but almost all my life. Absolutely gross, empty, clumsy and inexplicable.
