MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI (MA VIE DE COURGETTE) (2016) by Claude Barras
“We’ll stay together for our entire life”
Once upon a time in Babel cinema in Valencia a young girl. She was there to watch an animated film. Once upon a time a stop motion movie with a great characters design, solid and bright colours and textures very good achieved. This movie deal with the digital animation, that for me is so boring. “My life as a Zucchini” offer the magic that the spectator hope find in animation movies.
Once upon a time, on the other hand, an argument excessive by the naif. Courgette is a child that when him mother dies he goes to the orphanage. There he will try to fit and survive in a hostile atmosphere among children in the same situation. This is the eternal topic about fit in somewhere and someone but in there is treated with too much sugar. I can’t support, and this take me out of the action, the argument: If you are a good person it will happen to you good things, if you are a bad person it will happen to you bad things. This is not real. Maybe in an ideal world with fantasy, lollipops and cotton candy clouds.
I can’t abide that the animation must be something infant only because is, mainly, for children. Children are persons not like Lladró’s figurines.
Th soundtrack is very, very, nice. The birds, the wind blowing, the laughs and the police sirens…this is the real soundtrack. The music is only an accompaniment. In fact, the music can be too much but not, because is so subtle, soft. It melts with the other sounds like a dance or a game.
I like that the animation give to me to the crazy world even when it relates daily stories but it lose value when tries moralize us.
