ALL ABOUT ASADO (TODO SOBRE EL ASADO) (2016) by Mariano Cohn & Gastón Duprat

“The comedy that makes fun of culinary documentaries and Argentina’s obsession with meat”
I don’t have any holydays this summer but, don’t worry, I can go to Argentina from a seat of the Babel Cinemas. The Argentinian passion is divided in: football, Maradona, tango and the “Asado”. I don’t know if is in this order or everything mixed… It would have been very easy make a documentary about the three first things, but, it would have very boring and hackneyed also. It is about all of this that we can imagine that is Sunday and, come on, let’s go to the roast! This funny and, why don’t it say it? Freak, documentary show us since the cows and its breeding to the best way to cook its meat.
It has an informal and familiar tone to show us the parts of a cow, the seasoning, the embers and the kinds of grills… All of you need to know to make a very good roast and to enjoy of it. In Argentina the roast is an authentic ritual, a kind of worship to the cooked cow in dribs and drabs for the family and friends can meet to enjoy and chat.
In this documentary, you can listen comments and funny and curious songs about the roast with a little “casposo” touch. This is the pinch of salt. It is an ode to the roast, therein everything is showed: the roast trucks, the biggest grills, the familiar grills, the roast festivals… all about the roast. This movie is a pleasure for the meat’s lovers. If hadn’t ate something before I watch it sure that I would have starve.
This film is very austere in means and special effects. It hasn’t anything decorative, the meat is the great hero. I admit, I laughed, I laughed a lot of, especially with a kind of rap about the roast and a little song where listed every parts of the cow. I wish that somebody invite to me to the roast this Sunday in an Argentinian “Asador”.
