THE COMMERCIAL MOVIE OF THE WEEK
DOCTOR STRANGE (2016) by Scott Derrickson
“The impossibilities are endless”
During the last years, we’ve been able to enjoy a great amount of Marvel’s new movies; “Dr. Strange” is the last one. Thank to Scott Derrickson we’ll meet a character unknown so far in the cinema.
The movie tells the story of Dr. Stephen Stange, a prestigious neurosurgeon that, after an accident, suffers serious injuries on his hands. Searching for a solution to his problems, he’ll find a recover center in Nepal. But when he arrives there he’ll discover this place it’s not what it seems, because between its walls it’s hidden one of the three points in the world in charge of deffending the Universe from dark forces.
There’s something undeniable about Marvel, and it’s that all its movies fulfill all the elements required: great special effects, action scenes, humor and good actors. This last point it’s maybe one of the best things they have.
Marvel not only uses famous faces as claim, but also works with good professionals that accomplish to give the characters the necessary essence.
In this case, Benedict Cumberbatch achives to show an arrogant and conceited Doctor Strange, but also charismatic, that shows his human side through his relations with Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) and “The Ancient One” (Tilda Swinton).
Otherwise, Mads Mikkelsen it’s always a big surprise. When I saw him appear in the first scene, dressed up with the warrior suit and with his fierce look, I couldn’t believe I was looking to the same person that played Lucas in “The Hunt”.
And finally, I wanted to distinguish Wong, those marvelous character played by Benedict Wong, that give us the funniest moments of the movie.
There’s no need to speak about the technical aspects of the movie, as the special effects, choreography, sound… are always overwhelming. But it’s true that there’s something that I liked specially about this movie: the effects produced in the “Multiverse” travels. The lights and colors breaks the aesthetic of the movie and gives and amazing effect worth of watching on the big screen.
All this elements make “Dr. Strange” not only a good movie for the comics’ lovers; but also for those who like action, science fiction and fun.
