“Una nueva era del mundo mágico”

“Animales fantásticos y dónde encontrarlos” es la última película creada a partir del universo Harry Potter. Dirigida por David Yates, el director de las últimas cuatro películas de la saga, esta película llega para ser la primera de las cinco nuevas películas que nos va a seguir regalando J.K. Rowling.

Para los que no estén muy introducidos en el universo creado por J.K. Rowling, “Animales fantásticos y dónde encontrarlos” es una especie de guía o enciclopedia requerida para los estudiantes de Hogwarts, el Colegio de Magia y Hechicería, que recoge las diversas criaturas mágicas que habitan el mundo Harry Potter.

Es por eso que cuando me enteré que iba a haber una película del libro “Animales fantásticos y dónde encontrarlos” me quedé un poco confundida, ya que no sabía cómo iban a enfocar el tema. ¿Cómo convertir una guía en una historia? Lo que no se me ocurrió pensar es que esto iba a ser la excusa, y no la base, de una nueva serie de historias para seguir deleitando a los seguidores sedientos de nuevas aventuras.

La película nos introduce en la vida de Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), escritor del libro que da título a este filme, que viajará a Estados Unidos para devolver a un “Thunderbird” a su hábitat natural, y en el camino se detendrá en Nueva York, donde su maleta se intercambia con la de un “No-Maj” o persona no mágica, que accidentalmente liberará algunas de las criaturas mágicas que viajaban en la maleta de Scamander. En sus intentos de recuperarlas le seguirá de cerca Tina (Katherine Waterston), un ex agente de la ley mágica que pretende detenerlo por no estar en posesión de toda su documentación de mago y así recuperar su trabajo. Lo que ninguno de los personajes espera es que estas criaturas sean el menor de los problemas que acechan a la ciudad.

Es muy difícil ser realmente crítica con una película cuando llevas esperando mucho tiempo y supera con creces las expectativas. El inicio de la película con la melodía de la saga ya te asegura que vas a seguir viviendo la magia de “Harry Potter” con esta película. La ambientación, fotografía y demás aspectos técnicos siguen la dinámica de sus películas predecesoras haciendo que el espectador sienta que está en el mismo mundo que ha visto anteriormente, sólo que unos años antes.

Los personajes creados siguen el estilo fiel de J.K. Rowling, ese magnífico Eddie Redmayne interpretando a Newt Scamander, un mago introvertido pero maravilloso; Tina, esa mujer fuerte, independiente y fiel a sus principios a la que interpreta Katherine Waterston; y por último, Dan Fogler como Jacob Kowalski, personaje fantástico que representa a toda aquella persona ajena a la magia que la experimenta por primera vez, y que nos regala los momentos más divertidos de la película.

Y por último el guion, escrito por la propia J.K. Rowling y del que destacaría, sobre todo, esos momentos en los que se ven las diferencias entre el mundo mágico en Inglaterra y Estados Unidos. Todo esto hace que la película sea redonda, mágica, cumpliendo a la perfección su cometido.

Pero si hay algo que me gustó especialmente, es que sentí como si la película hubiese sido creada especialmente para todos aquellos que crecimos con “Harry Potter”, que éramos niños cuando él lo era, nos hicimos mayores con él, y ahora ya somos adultos. Porque si la saga siguen la tónica de esta película podemos asegurar que la magia continuará, sí, pero en un mundo mucho más adulto.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM (2016) by David Yates

“A new era of the wizarding world”

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is the latest movie created from Harry Potter’s universe. Directed by David Yates, the filmmaker of the last four films of the saga; this film is the first of the five new films that J.K. Rowling will give us.

For those who are not introduced in the universe created by J.K. Rowling, “Fantastic Animals and Where to Find Them” is a guide or encyclopedia required for students at Hogwarts, the College of Magic and Sorcery, which collects the various magical creatures that habit the world of Harry Potter.

That’s why, when I found out that there was going to be a movie from the book “Fantastic Animals and Where to Find Them”, I was a bit confused, since I did not know how they would approach the issue. How to turn a guide into a story?

The film introduces us to the life of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), writer of the book that gives title to this film, he will travel to the United States to return a “Thunderbird” to his natural habitat, and on his way he will stop in New York, where his suitcase is exchanged with the one from a “No-Maj” or non-magical person, who by accident will release some of the magical creatures that traveled in the suitcase of Scamander. In his attempts to retrieve his suitcase, he will be closely followed by Tina (Katherine Waterston), an ex-agent of the magic law who wants to arrest him because he is not in the possession of all his magical documents. Non of them will expect that these creatures are the least of the problems that lurk in the city.

It is very difficult to be critical of a movie, when you have been expecting it for a long time and it exceeds expectations. The beginning of the film with the melody of the saga, already assures you that you will continue to live the magic of “Harry Potter” with this film.

The setting, photography and other technical aspects follow the dynamics of its predecessor films, making the viewer feel that he’s in the same world he has seen previously, but just some years before.

The characters are created in the J.K.Rowling style; a brilliant Eddie Redmayne playing Newt Scamander, an introverted and wonderful magician; Tina, a strong and independent woman played by Katherine Waterston; and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, a fantastic character that represents all those people who haven’t met magic before, and who gives us the funniest scenes of the movie.

And, at last, the script written by J.K.Rowlin from which I would point out those moments when you perceive the differences between the magical world in England and the United States. All of this makes this movie magical, accomplishing its aim seamlessly.

But if it’s something that I liked most, it’s that I felt like the movie was created specially for all of us that have grown up with “Harry Potter”, that were children when he was, that got older with him, and that now are adults. Because if the saga keeps on this style, we can assure that the magic will go on, but in a world much more adult.
